Title:
Black Narcissus (Complete set of British front-of-house cards for the 1947 film)
Publication:
London: The Archers, 1947
Description:
Complete set of 8 UK color front-of-house cards from the first-run screening of the 1947 film. Each with the contemporary rubber stamp of Girosign, Ltd., on the verso.
Front-of-house cards served the same purpose in the UK as lobby cards in the US, but were generally only produced for films shot in color. A very popular format, used in the UK starting in the 1920s and running well into the 1980s. They are distinctive in that their color separation is much finer and the colors more vibrant than what is found in US lobby cards from the same period, and they are produced on a thinner stock.
A stone classic from the Powell-Pressburger canon, based on the 1939 novel by Rumer Godden. A visually stunning melodrama, one of the great duo's masterpieces, about the spirtual and melodramatic goings-on at a convent in the Himalayas.
8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.
